Geely EX5 Might be the Easiest EV to Live With

An editor from Cake The Mag was invited to drive the Geely EX5 for a few days. Here’s their take.

I spent three days with the Geely EX5 and by the time I handed the keys back, I felt like I’d been driving it for weeks (in the best way). I felt so attached to it. It’s one of those cars that slips into your routine seamlessly, without the adjustment period most electric cars demand. The moment you start moving, the first thing you notice is how smooth it is. There’s no lag, no hesitation. Just clean, uninterrupted motion that makes even quick errands feel calm. Dubai traffic suddenly felt a little less chaotic, which is a win in itself.

My favourite part of this car, unexpectedly, was the entertainment system. The interface is simple and intuitive, which is not something you can say about a lot of EV systems. But what completely won me over were the synchronised interior lights. I know it sounds slightly frivolous (especially when looking into a car review), but driving at night with your playlist feels like the most underrated luxury. I had friends in the car during one of the evenings, and the collective reaction was exactly the same: It turns the drive into an entire experience.

Beyond the aesthetics, the system is quick, responsive, and cleanly designed. Pairing devices was a breeze, switching between apps was smooth, and the whole interface felt like it was built for someone who actually likes using tech. The EX5’s ADAS (driver assistance) tech includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping support, so you can stay safe and centered. On top of that, you get the Hi-Geely voice assistant. Using the voice control to manage things like climate, music, or navigation was super easy with the quick response time.

But what really stood out to me over the three days was how easy the EX5 is to live with. Sometimes EVs can feel intimidating but the learning curve is almost non-existent. Every feature was easy to find and navigate, from the clean dashboard layout to the driving modes that require zero explanation.

In terms of design, the EX5 feels refreshingly modern. It’s not futuristic to the point of being unfamiliar but it balances a simplified aesthetic with enough character to stand out. The cabin is spacious, clean, and quite airy. The sunroof also added so much.

Across my three days with it, the EX5 genuinely felt like a car that fits into your lifestyle rather than one you have to adapt yourself to. It’s smooth, intuitive, and fun in ways you don’t really expect from something so affordable within the EV space. It’s the kind of car that makes even the simplest drives feel a bit brighter especially if, like me, you appreciate a good playlist and lights that dance along with it. I’m on the lookout for a new car and the EX5 has definitely made my list of options.
