LYMA’s Journey to Luxury Skin Innovation

When LYMA first launched in 2018 with its medical-grade supplement, founder Lucy Goff had one goal in mind: to fill the void in wellness she experienced firsthand after a life-altering illness. Fast forward to today, and LYMA is one of the most talked-about names in beauty and science-led innovation, with its clinical-grade Laser earning accolades from TIME Magazine, celebrity fans like Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow, and a waiting list that speaks for itself. What began as a personal mission has since evolved into a global movement redefining luxury, credibility, and skin health.

Following the launch of the LYMA Laser PRO in the United States — with a guest list including Helena Christensen, Diane Kruger, and some of the industry’s most respected dermatologists — it’s clear that LYMA’s influence is only growing stronger. Cake The Mag spoke to founder Lucy Goff about the power of cold laser technology, the moment that sparked it all, and why LYMA is shifting the narrative around beauty, performance, and possibility.

Cake The Mag: You recently launched in the U.S. with an event in New York’s West Village. Tell us about that night and what it meant to see style icons and thought leaders gather for LYMA.

Lucy Goff: The evening was a huge milestone for LYMA and a long-awaited opportunity to give an exclusive insight into how LYMA’s clinical-grade technology is transforming the industry, and to deliver this remarkable science in person.

I was honestly blown away when icons like Helena Christensen and Diane Kruger told me how much they loved our products and how excited they were to try the Laser PRO. We were also joined by industry leaders like Dr. Daniel Belkin, Dr. Dendy Engelman, and Joanna Czech, adding even more credibility to what many are calling the beauty launch of a generation. After years of hard work and innovation, it was a surreal and incredible moment.

From launching supplements to transforming the aesthetics tech industry, how has your vision for LYMA evolved since the beginning?

I’d love to say that from the start, I had a clear plan that just fell into place, but that would be wildly untrue. At the beginning, my vision was to make a real difference to people’s lives, and with the Supplement and Laser technology, our customers confirm that every single day.

LYMA’s brand vision is led by science, and that means our strategy has to stay fluid and adaptable. We can’t use the market for any sort of tracking because we’re always already onto the next big innovation. When it comes to our vision for now, as long as our global team of scientists keeps breaking barriers and engineering cutting-edge innovations, LYMA will continue to deliver revolutionary luxury lifestyle solutions.

What was your original “aha” moment for creating a cold laser device for home use — and how did you go about making that vision real?

That “aha” moment was approximately five years in the making. Our Director of Science was visiting a physical rehabilitation hospital in Germany when he noticed something astounding about the near-infrared low-level laser therapy (also referred to as cold laser technology) being used on a patient’s knee. Whilst the cold laser light energy was healing and restoring muscle and cartilage, it was also inadvertently rejuvenating the skin.

We resolved that if we could re-engineer a vast piece of medical equipment into a small, stylish, handheld device, it would revolutionise the skin device industry. At times, that felt insurmountable, but we never gave up and in the end, we accomplished it.

What I love most is that LYMA’s unique laser technology opens options up to everyone.

The LYMA Laser PRO has been spotted in the hands of some of the biggest names in fashion and Hollywood. How did this A-list love affair with the device begin?

LYMA has truly become a Hollywood favourite, thanks to the genuine connections we've built with some of the most respected dermatologists, aestheticians, and facialists in the industry. These experts are the trusted professionals Hollywood stars and VIP customers rely on for one of their most crucial assets – their faces. The relationships are deeply personal, with many of them having worked with the same clients throughout their esteemed careers.

Seeing firsthand how the LYMA laser technology can transform their skin — lifting, plumping, sculpting, fading pigmentation and erasing fine lines — word spreads. It didn’t take long for LYMA to go from the best insider skin secret to cult status. They also love that they can maintain the results with LYMA PRO in private — at home, in their hotel suites, or anywhere from on set to private jets.

The LYMA Laser PRO has already exceeded sales forecasts in its first week in the U.S. What do you attribute that immediate success to?

Following the success of the LYMA Laser, we were poised for the Laser PRO to make a big impact once again in the U.S., and indeed, the waitlist reached 16,000 people. In the first 24 hours, sales were +47% vs forecast, and we saw four months of stock sold in one week. Whilst the U.S. is the largest luxury market globally, I know there’s a real appreciation of British heritage and innovation.

Gaining FDA clearance demonstrated the brand’s commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. LYMA has always championed the scientific proof that our products work, and I think now that’s something consumers actively look for. Celebrity fans can get customers to the door, but it’s leading dermatologists, doctors, and surgeons who drive credibility, converting sceptics into believers — and their enthusiasm for the Laser PRO launch has been testament to that.

You’ve spoken about ending the era of skin damage as a trade-off for results. What makes LYMA’s technology so different — and how hard was it to convince the industry?

Clinic lasers are typically high-energy, hot lasers that cause intentional thermal damage to skin in order to stimulate skin’s repair processes and increase collagen production. They achieve dramatic results but at a cost — being painful, causing damage to skin, and requiring substantial downtime. LYMA’s cold laser technology works through photobiomodulation, where laser energy transforms into the chemical energy used within a cell, stimulating new collagen formation and triggering tissue regeneration without pain, downtime, or tissue injury — that is the true difference.

The medical industry has long known the benefits of cold laser therapy, and the numerous clinical papers backing it up. We already had the robust science and credibility, so our challenge was to engineer it into an ergonomic skin tool and demonstrate that something so sleek and portable could still deliver the same transformational power.

How important was it to stay away from LED and instead double down on cold laser technology, even when the market was flooded with simpler alternatives?

It's important to remember that not only does everyone’s skin behave differently, but time, cost, and skin goals can contrast dramatically. If someone wants a surface glow ahead of an event, then LED may have a place in their routine. If someone wants profound skin rejuvenation results without heat, damage, pain, or the associated life interruption, LYMA’s cold laser technology is the gold standard for at-home skin innovation.

What does “professional skin on your own terms” mean to you personally — and how do you envision LYMA reshaping the future of skin health?

To me, it means treating my skin when and how I wish. I love my monthly facials and the impressive results that professional skin techniques can achieve, but I want to maintain those results between visits and be able to put my best face forward every day. If you’re someone who likes Botox and fillers or wants a facelift, the Laser PRO can help reduce inflammation and downtime — or equally, it can serve as a viable alternative. What I love most is that LYMA’s unique laser technology opens options up to everyone. Whatever your age, gender, race, skin type or tone, you can achieve professional-level skin results yourself, safely and from anywhere. This truly is the laser for everyone.
