The GR Supra is Proof That Fun is Still Very Much Alive

An editor from Cake The Mag got behind the wheel of the 2026 Toyota GR Supra 3.0. Here's their take.

There's a moment, shortly after pulling away in the Toyota GR Supra, where you catch your own reflection in a shop window and think: yes, that's the right car for this road. From the wide rear haunches to the twin exhaust tips to the red brake calipers that wink at you every time you walk past, the Supra is the kind of car that turns heads whether it's moving or parked.

We had it for a few days, and honestly, we weren't ready to give it back.

The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six under the hood puts out 382 horsepower, and you feel every single one of them. The sprint to 100 km/h takes just 4.1 seconds, which sounds like a stat until you actually do it and suddenly forget how to speak for a second. The 8-speed automatic is sharp and eager, but for those who want to feel more involved, the paddle shifters are right there on the steering wheel, responsive, satisfying, and a little addictive on longer stretches of road.

What surprised us most, though, was how composed it felt. The adaptive variable suspension soaks up the roads with a kind of calm confidence, and the Sport mode (accessed right from the steering wheel) tightens everything up without turning the experience into a workout. It adjusts to your mood, which is exactly what you want.

Inside, the cabin is snug in the best possible way. Two seats, sport leather, and an 8.8-inch widescreen navigation system that's crisp and easy to use. The 12-speaker JBL audio system deserves its own mention, it's genuinely, properly good. A long drive with a great playlist in this car is a full sensory experience, and we're not even being dramatic.

There's a thoughtful side to the Supra that tends to get overlooked between all the noise about its performance. Blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, pre-collision safety systems, it's packed with driver assistance tech that quietly keeps you in check while you focus on enjoying the drive.

Is it practical for everyday? No. Does it need to be? Also no. The Supra has always been about the drive itself, the feeling of being in exactly the right car at exactly the right time. And for a week on Dubai's roads, it delivered on that completely.

The Toyota GR Supra starts at AED 238,900.
