It's Flip Flop Girl Summer

There was a time flip flops lived firmly in “beach bag, not outfit” territory and it was an ick when seen outside. That era is over. Somewhere between the quiet luxury shift and everyone's sudden obsession with looking effortlessly put-together, the flip flop got promoted, and it's staying promoted.

The formula for making it work is simpler than people think: a fresh pedicure, properly moisturised legs (and feet), and a pair that actually looks considered rather than like an afterthought. Get those three things right and a flip flop reads as a decision.

Whether you're leaning heeled and polished or flat and unbothered, flip flop summer isn't a micro-trend, it's here to stay. Here are seven of Cake The Mag’s favourites:

Styling these is less about overthinking and more about balance: let the heeled options (TOTEME, Tory Burch) carry a look that's otherwise minimal with a slip skirt and a plain tank. The flatter, more playful pairs (Melissa x GANNI, Senso, Havaianas) want texture around them instead with linen trousers, an oversized shirt, and jewellery doing the rest of the talking. And the classics (TKEES, Primark) are the ones you don't style around at all as they're the reset button for any outfit that's going hard everywhere else.

The girls have been working the flip flops this year, here are some of our favourite looks.
